Welcome to the Sun Country Ranch Tour website. Here you will find detailed information on our unique, educational, discovery-filled, culturally dynamic journeys to all corners of the planet. We have been sharing these great trips with small groups of folks who have a passion for the land and the nurturing of our natural resources since 1997. We have now successfully completed fifteen great tours, five to southern Africa, four to Argentina, three to Australia, one to New Zealand, and two in the Rocky Mountains. Take a peak at our “past journeys” and our upcoming 2006-07 ranch tours (Pampas to Patagonia – March/April and Best of the Rockies – May, Island Ranching in Hawaii – Nov. 06 and High Country South Island New Zealand – March 2007)". Sun Country owners Jim and Daniela (and daughter Savanna) personally lead every trip.

HOW WAS THIS VENTURE BORN?
The main reason…we love to travel, and we also very much want to provide educational opportunities for those interested in restorative, profit-oriented agriculture.

We have both studied and traveled extensively in New Zealand, Australia, South East Asia, Argentina, and the USA. In the winter of 1996/97 we also spent four incredible months of adventure and learning in southern and eastern Africa.

As a result of these experiences, we developed a passion for traveling and learning, and decided we'd like to provide these types of learning opportunities to ranchers and farmers all over the world. We offer these opportunities in the form of international ranch tours to successful agriculturalists in the southern hemisphere during the North American winter months.

HOW WE ORGANIZE OUR TOURS
Prior to launching our tours, we spend time in our host countries visiting potential ranch hosts, exploring rural areas, towns, and cities and arranging all the logistics to be able to offer you a well-planned, unique experience. From the many potential options, we try to choose those places that we feel will bring the most learning, that will challenge our thinking, and that will leave memories in our hearts to last a lifetime.

OUR TOURS ARE UNIQUE FROM SEVERAL PERSPECTIVES:

• Small groups
One is that we are committed to keeping our groups small. This enables us to minimize time spent getting in and out of vehicles, checking in and out of hotels, etc., and to maximize the time spent interacting with and learning from the experiences of our ranch hosts. Small groups create an atmosphere of great camaraderie and lead to very meaningful learning opportunities, both between our clients themselves and between the clients and the ranch families we visit. In addition, small groups make it more logistically feasible to stay with our hosts in their homes or guest quarters. We've found that indeed the most meaningful aspect of these trips is this "after-hour" sharing which takes place around the dinner table or campfire. That can only happen with small groups. Each tour is limited to a maximum of 6-10 people.

We visit the very best
Also, the families and oper
ations we visit are on the leading edge of profitable, restorative agriculture. They are environmentally conscious, creative thinkers and they've definitely got a lot to share, not only about their specific operations, but about the unique challenges, struggles, and opportunities of their countries. These are proactive, pioneering, hands-on people, living in hard-to-reach, isolated, beautiful, unique corners of the world, and our tours provide the one and only means to get you there.

• Great attractions
The focus of our tours is definitely "off the beaten track", but we also include a variety of tourist activities for which our host countries are famous -- tango shows and polo matches in Argentina, wildlife safaris and white-water rafting in Zimbabwe, sight-seeing in Sydney and horseback riding in the Snowy Mountains in Australia, among others. So you'll get to see some of the attractions most people come to these countries to experience, but your trip will be highly enriched by the learning and local perspectives gained as we explore places and meet people that the average tourist never knows exists. Should you decide to extend your trip to visit other areas in these countries, we'll be happy to help you with the arrangements.

Each of our host countries is absolutely beautiful, and as much as possible we do our traveling in comfortable vans to enable our clients to see from the ground a representative cross section of landscapes, towns, and cities.

PRIVATE GROUPS
Custom designed journeys for groups of 6 to10 people are becoming popular. If you would like us to arrange a specially tailored program to suit your requirements and interests, let us know. Our international tours can only take place between November and May. Our Rocky Mountain tour can take place in the North American summer months. Please, do not hesitate to call us for advice and a quote.

Please, continue on to see detailed itineraries of these great trips, learn more about our host countries and us, find out what our clients have to say of our past trips, or e-mail us if you have any questions.

We look forward to having you join us as we explore the best farms and ranches in the world.
Sincerely,
Jim, Daniela and Savanna
